7-3-19 ADAT Payson area route inspections

Post by -Spike- » Fri May 17, 2019 6:06 pm

We're going to the Payson area to escape the heat. Not sure where we'll be inspecting, but we know where we're meeting!

As with any ADAT run, if no one is signed up 24 hours before the trip we may not go to the meeting spots, so make sure you sign up!

Meeting time and place-
9AM at the Maverik Gas Station 715 N Beeline Hwy, Payson, AZ 85541

Lunch will be provided for folks who let us know they're coming at least 24 hours before the event start time. Either register on the TRAL Event Calendar or reply to this thread. Please let us know if you plan on bringing guests. Look for the option to add a note if you register on the calendar.

Keep an eye on this thread for the latest updates.

Decided to work the area up around Whispering Pines, near the middle of Control Rd, taking advantage of the cooler weather at that altitude while the Phoenix area suffered with something like 107° for a high. :grinpimp:

Stacy and I took off bound for Washington Park, but met a local couple on ATVs scouting local campsites to make sure people had put their fires out.

Chatted with them a little, told them about our data collection software and what we do. They turned out to be great people; once a week they go out making sure the camp spots are clean, chat with campers about proper etiquette for the area, and have an interest in what we do. Hope to see them at a future meeting!

Unfortunately, they also showed up a couple campsites which had black waste, something they weren’t comfortable picking up and understandably so. Documented where it was and will pass this info along to Natural Restorations, who have been wanting some work up in that area.

Wasn’t long before we moved on to the routes which needed inspecting a little further north.

Another one ended at a ranch which, from what I’ve read about the area is also a Girl Scout camp.

What a place to hang out!

Finished up in this area and then went back down to Control Rd to check out a couple routes which came off it to the south.

Wrapped up the day by replacing a marker which needed some attention.
