Powerline Trail (FR393)

Report problems, or check for issues on a trail you plan to run
Forum rules
Before you post- please search for the trail and see if there's already a thread on it, and if so add your comments to it. If you can't find a thread you started, chances are it got merged with an existing thread about the same trail. Please include the FR (Forest Road) number and/or common nickname (for example, FR3456, Log Corral), and as much detail as possible. TRAL can use this info to plan repairs or report the issues to the responsible agency, and hopefully get the problems resolved!

Powerline Trail (FR393)

Post by -Spike- » Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:58 pm

One of several 'powerline trails', this ~12 mile trail runs along a power line from Bartlett Lake northeast to the Sunflower area. It is typically accessed at the north end via the Old Beeline Highway (FR627) and from the south end from Log Corral (FR3456). It has great views of the lake and traditionally offers some challenges in the form of off-camber shelf roads. Depending on current conditions, it can usually be traversed in a stockish full-sized vehicle with good ground clearance and an experienced driver, although the southern connector, Log Corral, is not at all stocker-friendly. It gets particularly dangerous to travel when wet, as the road surface turns to grease and vehicles tend to slide towards the edge of the road, which is often over a serious drop-off.

We have a report of a particularly bad spot about halfway through the trail. TRAL is planning a run to assess the problem and either fix it or schedule some repair days out there. Keep an eye on the Upcoming Events forum if you'd like to help!

Last time we ran this, I think it was December 2018 - we came upon a Jeep and Cherokee concerned about crossing this section. After some rock stacking, Ken lead and spotted them thru. We noted it in Collector.
