7-10-19 ADAT Payson area route inspections

Post by -Spike- » Fri May 17, 2019 6:20 pm

We're going to the Payson area to escape the heat. Not sure where we'll be inspecting, but we know where we're meeting!

As with any ADAT run, if no one is signed up 24 hours before the trip we may not go to the meeting spots, so make sure you sign up!

Meeting time and place-
9AM at the Maverik Gas Station 715 N Beeline Hwy, Payson, AZ 85541

Lunch will be provided for folks who let us know they're coming at least 24 hours before the event start time. Either register on the TRAL Event Calendar or reply to this thread. Please let us know if you plan on bringing guests. Look for the option to add a note if you register on the calendar.

Keep an eye on this thread for the latest updates.

This was a bit of a short day; we had a TRAL meeting to get to in Mesa and with El Capitan out of town, I was running he show.

During our safety talk we included some careful calculations to get us back into Mesa in time for a quick dinner, trip to the store for cookies, then over to the meeting with time to spare. So what could go wrong? :hillbilly:

Started out up near Whispering Pines, off of Control Road.

Leapfrogging some of the routes for more efficiency, we watched a nice storm build up on the rim, but never really come our way. Still made for great scenery!

A quick break for lunch, some discussion about game plan to make sure we were still on track and the decision to work our way south, finishing a couple shorter routes in the area and putting us closer to town.

Ben worked a route which connected from Control Rd down to 198, finishing up just north of Pyeatt Draw. Stacy and I headed over to a route just south of there which went across Diamond Rim to round out our day.

Say, what’s that hanging from Stacy’s Jeep? :hhmm:

Oh...that’s not conducive to driving stability. :surprised:

Accidents happen, so no big deal and Stacy was a great sport about it. A quick radio to Ben had him running into town to grab a few parts from the hardware store, while Stacy and I kept cool in my truck with the AC until Ben arrived. A little hillbilly engineering later and we were back on our way, arriving just in time to start the meeting 30 minutes late  and get some flak for not getting cookies first (sorry Kevin!).

Spent the meeting talking amongst familiar faces, trying to decipher the usual graphs, and all while sitting in Ken and Christine’s seat! :flush:
