The Forest Service has asked that we look at an issue on FR422, which is along the 4 Peaks road. Rumor has it there's a rock in the road.

Meeting Time and Place:
8:00 am at Baja Gas Station, 10180 N Fort McDowell Rd, Fort McDowell, AZ 85264

Lunch will be provided for folks who let us know they're coming at least 24 hours before the event start time. Either register on the TRAL Event Calendar or reply to this thread. Please let us know if you plan on bringing guests. Look for the option to add a note if you register on the calendar.

Keep an eye on this thread for the latest updates.

Had a great time! Weather is perfect for getting out in the higher elevations like this. We didn't find the reported problem rock, so it was probably taken care of by someone who wanted to get through.

A couple months back, right about the time things came to a screeching halt, we had discussed a potential issue with a rock impeding travel on 422, at the top of Four Peaks. Chad from the Mesa District let us know about it, said he even documented it in Collector so we would know where it was and could take a look at it! I guess all that training paid off!

But Chad didn’t sync collector and then went on vacation, the loser. :flush:

Left to our own devices, we decided to go see if we could find said rock and also took it as an opportunity to update the routes in the area, in our efforts to keep conditions as up-to-date as possible.

Once we hit the top we were greeted with a fantastic sight; low clouds over Tonto Basin which got both of us to pause and take in the views.

Decided to run the El Oso Mine loop first; a fantastic set of routes with interesting views and some fun driving interest. The flora still vibrant in the temperate May conditions.

But if I’m driving, who is taking the pics? :hhmm:

Drove all the way to the top of 422, put in a couple signs to help with making travel less confusing, had some lunch, then drove the rest of the way out. Never did see that rock. :meh: But here’s a few views to round the day out.
