We're going north! This will be one of our trips to Young for the summer season. We are not sure yet if we will have rooms in the Forest Service barracks or not, so camping is a possibility.

We're planning on running from Tonto Basin across the Sierra Anchas on FR609 and various other routes, doing route inspections along the way. We'll play the return trip by ear.

We'll be up there for 3 days, but folks are welcome to join us for any or all of those days. Note that each day is a separate event on the TRAL calendar, please sign up for each day that you plan to attend.

Meeting spots for the second or third day will be determined as the event approaches if necessary. If no one signs up to join us those days, there won't be a meeting place.

Also, as with any ADAT run, if no one is signed up 24 hours before the trip, we may not go to the meeting spots. Make sure you check back here before you attempt to join us unannounced.

Meeting Time and Place:
5-29 9am at Tonto Basin Marketplace- 45994 AZ-188, Tonto Basin, AZ 85553
5-30 TBD if necessary
5-31 TBD if necessary

Lunch will be provided for folks who let us know they're coming at least 24 hours before the FIRST DAY's event start time. Either register on the TRAL Event Calendar or reply to this thread (and let us know which day(s) you will attend). Please let us know if you plan on bringing guests. Look for the option to add a note if you register on the calendar.

Keep an eye on this thread for the latest updates.

We're still waiting to hear from Gary, the FS guy, on barracks availability.

We're having trouble finding out about the barracks, so we're planning to camp and if we can get in the barracks we'll consider it a bonus. If we learn anything we'll post it.

Three days of fantastic views!

Started off down in the valley around Tonto Basin to finish a small section of routes we didn’t get to back in January, which I must confess feels like a lifetime ago. But again, taking advantage of the cooler temps, we slammed those out and then headed for the pines via 609 through Juniper Canyon.

609 had been recently graded, making for a nice relaxing drive.

Had lunch at the top, then started with 1938, followed by 875.

These routes had been run before, but keeping up-to-date data on them is crucial. This is also an area where a lot of people explore, so keeping the signage current helps insure a good experience for users of the area.

875 is a great drive, offering some camping in the meadows at its start, then a pretty challenging climb with some rewarding views.
