FR42E 5-2-2015

Post by Tools R Us » Sun May 03, 2015 10:52 pm

Apologies for zero warning. :ban: We have been watching the lake level and fire restrictions to hopefully do the gate installation before summer. We really don't know what is needed to get to the work site, so was decided Friday afternoon to to run out there in the morning and see. Also, if we could get there, would be good to know how the high lake level affects the beach run?

Bartlett Flat was a zoo! Got to the point where most were denied, walked past a bit, looked like we could make it with little problem, negotiated passing through a camp. By this time there were even more people there, some pretty desperate for a place and there were none.

Were reminded of our training last week, the part about of you don't meet the demand, you lose control, yep, there was no controlling this mess. One user was adamant; if you guys go, I'm following! Looking around, we are driving locked rigs on 35" or 37" tires and they have a stock Exploder, no problem, we can make it!

Was decided the best valor was to bail, not get others in trouble, thanked those who had helped and left.

Most of the Flats are good, there are only two places where there are issues. This is one of them, we wouldn't of had a problem, but not good for the trailer. I'm guessing we need ~3' more level drop?

It has rained enough to washout the sand in most places. Looking at this area, the lower rock is much harder, would be a good foundation if we decide that improvements are needed? Had two newbies to the trail, it was good to watch them and get an idea of where/how much they struggled.

This had also slightly washed out, zero issue.

This is totally doable, today was 9.3' from full and there was plenty of room. If we wanted to have accessibility at 100% full, wouldn't be much of a deal, trim up the lower branches on some of the trees, like the one in the foreground of this pic.

Most of the trees that would need trimming are dead.

Heading back out, at this level there is plenty of room. At the highest level of this last event (~4') would have been doable, but would have gotten tires wet.

The fun washout.

The '40 got spun around a bit and needed assistance. Was good to watch, it's a bit of a rude rig, not much for finesse, smoothness and Jamie is mostly a mud/rainforest driver, so out of his element. Even with this, mostly did well.

In Collector this is marked as needing attention, yep, needs brushing.
