There's heavy rain in the forecast for Thursday, which means water in Sycamore Creek. Currently there's no significant rain forecasted for Friday through Sunday, so the wash will have time to drain. We're monitoring flow rates and have a plan B, which is inspecting some routes in the Rolls recreation area. We will probably make a decision on whether or not to cross the creek when we get there. Barring any change in the weather, we're planning to go ahead with this run as planned, but check back here for updates.

Do you think it is a good idea to go out with trails as wet as there are .? Just wondering. I know people do but it also tears up the trails .

I think it depends on the terrain. That area is mostly sand and rock, decomposed granite, so it drains quickly. I'd be more concerned if it were clay soil, which retains water and turns to mud and gets displaced or formed into ruts. Plus it will have a full day plus to drain and dry out. That's my thoughts, anyway. If we get out there and it's slick and sloppy we'll probably have to rethink our plans.

We had 4 TRAL vehicles show up initially, with a 5th unexpected one joining us along the way. Only one of us brought a passenger, but all the other 3 initial trucks got a Forest Service person in the passenger seat for the day. We did a careful test to see if Sycamore Creek was safely crossable and found it to be too deep and too fast at the second crossing for our group, so we weren't able to reach the work area on FR160, we'll reschedule that when it dries out a bit. Instead, we went across the SR87 highway and ran FR143 (Four Peaks road) to check on snow conditions and possibly open the gate, but there was still snow on the ground and the road was deemed too dangerous to open. It will probably get opened sometime next week. We were able to do some fence repairs at the gate, which is at the intersection of 143 and 11.

The water crossing test was very careful, no matter what you hear. Nothing else probably needs to be said on that account.

Yes, as you can see from what was unfortunately the only pic taken, there was a lot of supervision going on.

Yep. After careful inspection of the water we decided to go check out the conditions on Four Peaks Road!

Very thorough and careful inspection indeed!
