TRĀL MONTHLY MEETING

October 11, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Rich Smith.

TRAL Updates

Final review of the pamphlet is done, and the disc was passed along to Matt to make changes.  Once Matt has finished, the pamphlet will then go to Yamaha for approval and then the Forest Service for approval.

Grant – It’s moving at a snail’s pace, but it’s still moving.  TRAL is not able to purchase apparel (hats, jerseys, shirts, etc) with the grant funds, so Rich beefed up the tools and such for the trailer.

Area Updates

Bulldog East – Bret reported that since the road has been graded, it’s been nice       to drive on.  Bret’s guys put out a smoldering camp fire just off the 1356 Road.        Signage isn’t bad, but the area could always use more.

Bulldog West – Patrick said he hadn’t been out there in a while, but the last time        he was there, there was a lot of trash.  He thinks the rains pushed a lot of it out of       the hills and gullies.

Mesquite – David reported that Mesquite is starting to get trashy.  Need to do            some clean-up work.  The signage is still up in the area.  There are a lot of tire tracks heading down the river.

Rolls – Drew and Kevin reported that the Rolls is really trashy.  The kiosk that we       installed at Cottonwood this spring is all shot up.  On a positive note, the staging   lot just off the B-Line is holding up well and the vegetation around the site is          doing well.

Forest Service Update

With the budget cuts and personnel changes, the Forest Service is asking us to help find ways to make improvements.  If anyone has an idea, please let Amy know.

Parking lot camping will open October 15th for Coons Bluff, Goldfield, Phon D Sutton, and Pebble Beach.  These are RV type camping only.

The Bolder recreation site will be closed from October 11th – November 30th for toilet installations.

4 Peaks clean-up is scheduled for November 5th.

The Sonoran Desert Tortoise is now on the endangered species list, so please be careful and watch out for them.  Sycamore is the largest Sonoran Desert Tortoise habitat in the nation.

December 1st will start the Eagle nesting, so sensitive areas will be closed during the nesting timeframe.

Tonto Family Day is scheduled for October 27th at Timber camp in the Globe district.

If you would like to be on the Interpretive Sign review committee, please let Amy know.

There will be a volunteer open house at the Mesa Ranger office on October 15th.

Open Discussion

The calendar has been updated with events, so please check the TRAL website for events and to sign up.

The season kick-off event will be October 21st – 23rd at the Sunflower site.  Details are on the TRAL website.

With no other business to address, the meeting was adjourned at 7:57 PM
