Minutes 10-8-09:

TRĀL Board Meeting Summary

We had a get together with the board and the Forest Service to start a list of projects for the 2009 / 2010 season.

The board met after the planning session and elected Don Covert as vice president.

Mesquite Area - Rich Smith for Rod Jackson

A couple of small searches have been done for the aluminum sign in the wash at Mesquite and it was not found.  Two of the missing Carsonite signs were replaced.  A several person project to rebuild the barricade at the second sign needs to be scheduled.

Pobrecito Project - Rich Smith

Several people helped place top rails on the posts at Pobrecito on September 21st which were then tacked in place.  Allen Cross went back out and welded them in place completely.

We'll schedule more work days to continue work on this project.

BulldogCanyon - Patrick Frawley

Sheep herders have formed a new road for their water truck off the 3554 road at Usery Pass.  They apparently brought their water truck in this way creating a track and then others have been using it and it is "burned in" now.  Allen Cross will get them to help fix this issue.

Patrick is planning to get the guides from Desert Storm to do a cleanup at Bulldog.  He will let Rich know when that is going to happen to see if we can get some others out to help.

There is painted graffiti showing up on the rocks in this area.  Allen will address.

Updates from Forest Service - Amy Racki

The proposed action has been drafted and a public meeting has been scheduled November 17th from 6-8PM in Mesa.  Amy will find out the location of the meeting and send it out.

Volunteer Program Update - Rich Smith

We will plan to have the pilot volunteer orientation training session in November to start training our first group of 25 volunteers.

Rich Smith, Brian Smith, Don Covert and Patrick Frawley will meet this week separately and put together a proposal for the raffle.

The trip to visit with the SBNFA will be delayed.  Too many people can't make it on October 17th as we had planned.

A question came up about how TRĀL will handle people who show up with volunteers to a work event and want to help.  The initial thought was if they are with an existing member, they will be alowed to participate and encouraged to join.  If they are on their own, they will be given information about joining but not allowed to work on that project.  This is not the final answer and the board will take the question up in its next meeting.

The other question for the board is whether TRĀL will manage large cleanups.  The initial answer was no but again, we'll take this up in the next board meeting.

Ambassador Training

We have at least 5 people from TRĀL signed up for the Ambassador training on October 24th.

Lower Salt RiverClean Up & TRAL Booth

We held the TRĀL booth at the Lower Salt River Cleanup on September 26th.  We passed out educational materials, talked to people about the new Bush entrance, about travel management and about being prepared in addition to telling them about TRĀL.  We had a few people leave us information to be added to the mailing list.
