TRĀL MONTHLY MEETING

November 10, 2010

In Attendance: Don Covert, Allen Cross, Patrick Frawley, David Gronlund, Barb Hill, Randy Hill, Steve Hill, John Juliano, Deborah Mayo, Bret Marchant, Kirk McLarty, Matt Scoutten, Rich Smith, Kevin Thompson

The meeting was called to order at 7:12 PM by Rich Smith.

Area Updates

Mesquite – Dave reported that Mesquite looks good. There have been campers camping in the wash.  There haven’t been too many people out with the construction going on.  Don brought up that a fallen tree is blocking the culvert and that it needs to be cut and moved.  He suggested that it be moved to a location where OHV’ers are cutting in a bypass.  Allen said he will look at it and ask fire to wench it over to the bypass.  Rich suggested a sign be added as you come out of Mesquite that will remind drivers that traffic is two way.  Alan said he would talk to ADOT about installing a sign.

Bulldog East & West – Bret said someone has been out helping to clean the area up, so it’s pretty clean.  He also said that someone drove over the pipe fence.  They must have gotten lost and figured the only way out was over the fence.  The fence only bent, and didn’t break, so repairs should be easier.  Patrick reported that the area is clean as well.

Forest Service Update

The Travel Management Plan continues moving towards Draft Final, but may be delayed.  The plan is still on track to be released for public comment in January.

On Saturday, November 13th, Copperstate 4WD Club has coordinated a trash pick-up at Sugarloaf.  TRAL is invited to come out and set up our sign and table.

Open Discussion

Rich talked about the pamphlet that was submitted to Yamaha as part of the grant application.  There are some minor revisions, and Matt has volunteered to help as a graphic designer.

Rich spoke about the potential relationship between TRAL and the OHV Ambassadors.  Rich and Art met with Baldwin to discuss the relationship and how we could help, but since we are a new group, the Ambassadors aren’t willing to fund us.  We don’t want to get into a situation where the Ambassadors feel threatened by TRAL, nor do we want the State to dictate what TRAL will do (Ambassadors are regulated and funded by the State).  Discussions will continue as TRAL and the Ambassadors try to bridge the relationship.

With no other business to address, the meeting was adjourned at 7:37 PM
