Mesquite Wash Workday - April 10
A big thanks to all the volunteers who came out from TRĀL and the Rock Stars Motorcycle Club
on Saturday!
We put the Carsonite signs back up in the wash to divert traffic to the 160 road as well as putting the big
aluminum sign back up that had washed downstream in the last flood.
We also installed the posts for a section of pipe fencing to block access into the hanging gardens.
There was also a general cleanup of the area including the wash on the east side of Highway 87 in addition
to the west side.

MESQUITE WASH - HANGING GARDENS
As TRĀL was forming in 2008, the Tonto came to us about conservation of a riparian area at Mesquite Wash. The
site has some unique hanging gardens and beautiful vegetation. The goal was to keep OHV traffic out of that
area.
About the same time, the Rock Stars Motorcycle Club had agreed to adopt the Mesquite Wash area for cleanups and
improvement projects. So, with cooperation between the Mesa District of the Tonto, the Rock Stars Motorcycle Club
and TRĀL, signs and barriers were installed at all of the entrances to the sensitive area.
Members of Rock Stars and TRĀL continue to monitor the signs and barriers, repairing or replacing them as
necessary.
