TRĀL MONTHLY MEETING

March 9, 2011

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM by Rich Smith.

Area Updates

Mesquite – The estimated completion date for construction at Mesquite is May 11th.

Bulldog – Patrick reported that someone tried to pull down the west gate, and now it doesn’t close properly.  There’s increased traffic going down Bulldog Canyon, but everyone seems to be behaving.

Butcher Jones – There’s a fence down.

Open Discussion

There is a defensive driving class coming up for the 4 wheel drive folks, and MSF training for the motor cycle guys.  These are required classes for those that want to use their vehicles on the forest when working under the guise of the Forest Service.

There’s a patrol and meet and greet on the 20th at 4 Peaks Road.

A private group is offering basic survival skills training at Usury Mnt Park on April 9th.  The cost is $20, and will go from 8 AM to 5 PM for those interested in attending.

TRAL applied for a Resource Advisory Committee grant to purchase a trailer and tools.  The grant was approved by the committee and must now go to Washington for distribution.

The group reviewed the pamphlet that we received the Yamaha grant dollars for.  The pamphlet only needs minor changes; move a couple pictures, and replace the centerfold map.

Forest Service Update

Game and Fish will be hosting an event on March 26th and 27th.

An invasive weed specialist will be out at Gonzales Pass on Saturday to remove buffelgrass.

The FS is offering a class on wildlife and plants at Mesquite on March 26th.

This Friday at noon, the Forest Service will be hosting a potluck event at Sheep’s Camp.

The request that was submitted to shore up the little dam at Sheep’s Camp has been rejected.

Game and Fish Update

G&F made contact with roughly 144 OHV users and issued 30 tickets for various violations; 23 for no or expired OHV sticker, 4 no helmet, and 3 for two passengers on an ATV.

There have been too many deaths as a result of too many passengers riding on ATV’s that were meant to be single passenger vehicles.  G&F PIO will be putting out a press release, and they would like TRAL to help spread the word.

With no other business to address, the meeting was adjourned at 8:25 PM
