TRĀL MONTHLY MEETING

January 11, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 7:10 PM by Rich Smith.

TRAL Updates

Pamphlet – Map updates will be done Friday by Forest Service.  Once complete, it will go to Yamaha for final approval.  We hope to have it ready by the end of February.

Stats – At the end of 2010, we had 50 volunteers and worked 600 hours.  In contrast, in 2011, we had 60 volunteers and worked over 1,000 hours.

Grant – There’s one glitch in the grant; we need insurance to cover volunteers and liability.  Quotes so far are coming in at around $500 per year.

Hewitt Station – The CSC group made it out to Hewitt and reported that there is a lot of damage and debris from shooters.  They recommend a clean-up, but also recommend keeping the area open to shooters.  There’s a need for new carsonites and stickers along the roadways.  March 9th is the TRAL event, so maybe a partnership can be made with a shooter club to help in a clean-up.  We should set up a booth at one of their events, and make it a user-user and not a user-Forest Service event.

Saturday will be a work day at Cottonwood Camp.  Start at 9:00 AM with lunch provided by TRAL.

Rich showed a presentation on the Environmental Analysis portion of Travel Management.

Forest Service Update

After months of waiting, Travel Management Environmental Analysis has been released.  There is roughly 2,000 pages.  February 4th is the deadline to provide comments back to the Forest.

Lower Salt River clean-up is scheduled for February 18th.

The interim District Ranger is Rocky.  They hope to hire a permanent replacement next month.  The supervisor has moved, and the assistant has retired, so there is all new management.

With no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:15 PM
